Lake George Olive Oil Company is a family-owned purveyor of fresh extra virgin olive oils from around the world. In addition to traditional EVOO, shoppers can choose from a wide variety of infused oils -- Tuscan herbs, fresh basil, harissa, and more.
Oils are sourced from the world’s best olive oil-producing regions -- Italy, Spain, Chile, California, etc. Like wine, where olive oil is produced has a significant impact on its taste. It’s what’s known as “terroir,” defined as a “taste of place”; it’s the characteristic taste and flavor imparted by the place where a particular food or drink is produced.
That does not mean oil produced in one region is better than another; each place gives its distinctive flavor and taste to the foods made there. Lake George Olive Oil Company is a great place to experience this. They have an oil Tasting Bar that allows shoppers to taste all the varieties of their EVOO.
We are also enthusiastic about their balsamic vinegars. If you have ever tasted excellent balsamic vinegar, you know that it’s a game-changer. We had our first sip of artisanal balsamic vinegar on a trip to Italy nearly 20 years ago (we drank it like a small shot in a shop carved into the side of a cliff in Assisi). Mamma mia! Our minds were blown. After that experience, we were importing our balsamic with regular shipments from Italy. So we were very excited to find we could get good balsamic vinegar right in our backyard.
In addition to vinegar and oils, Lake George Olive Oil Company sells an assortment of sea salts, jams, pestos, salsas, grilling sauces, and a variety of locally made products, home décor, and books. Looking for the perfect gift for your ADK hosts or to take home? This is a great place to find one.
