Visitors to the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute are greeted with the view of Mirror Lake's pristine waters framed by snow-capped mountains—a view that is nothing short of enchanting. Traditionally crafted from wood and steel, the toboggans offer a nostalgic charm reminiscent of bygone eras (note: the Toboggan is included in the admission price: $20 for Adults, $10 for Students).
Toboggans are sent down the ice-covered chute onto frozen Mirror Lake. Depending on weather conditions, sleds can travel over 1,000 feet once they reach the frozen lake surface.
With each descent, riders are treated to an adrenaline-fueled journey that culminates in a rush of excitement as they skim across the frozen surface of Mirror Lake.

While the toboggan chute offers an exhilarating experience, safety is always a top priority. Trained professionals carefully maintain the track to ensure optimal conditions for riders. Additionally, staff members are on hand to provide guidance and assistance, ensuring each participant enjoys a safe and memorable experience. To ensure the safety of riders, only one sled is sent down at a time.
Since the actual outrun of the slide is the frozen lake surface, the official opening day for operation varies from year to year. The chute has been open as early as December 26. Generally, they begin operations around the first full weekend in February. The operators prefer to have 12 inches of good solid ice to ensure the safety of guests.

Admission prices allow our guests to slide as much as they can during the scheduled time. Toboggans are rented and can hold 2-4 people. During President's week, lines are often long, and people sometimes have to wait 15-20 minutes between rides. Luckily, extended hours are offered during these peak holiday times.
Since this is an outdoor activity, we recommend that guests dress warm, wear winter boots, and not wear expensive ski pants. The friction created during the ride often wears through certain types of ski wear. The operators also extend a caution suggesting that riders must be in good health, and free from heart conditions, motion sickness, back or neck problems, or any other physical limitations. It is also suggested that expectant mothers refrain from riding. Um, duh.
