Saranac Lake’s Annual Canoe and Kayak Race
‘Round the Mountain kicks off paddling season in the Adirondacks.

‘Round the Mountain Race on Saranac Lake
The Northern Forest and Canoe Trail hosts their annual ‘Round the Mountain (RTM) Canoe & Kayak Race on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

The 10.5-mile course commences at the picturesque Ampersand Bay Resort, nestled on the serene shores of Lower Saranac Lake.
From there, the route winds gracefully westward, tracing the tranquil waters of Lower Saranac until reaching the mouth of the Saranac River, situated just opposite Bluff Island.
As paddlers continue their journey, the river meanders through a lush landscape, requiring a brief carry around the historic Lower Locks.
This leg of the adventure introduces Oseetah Lake, a charming expanse of water that invites a moment of reflection before the course concludes at the welcoming Riverfront Park, located on the scenic Lake Flower. Each segment of this route offers participants a delightful immersion in the natural beauty of the region.
Please note: online pre-registration is required and all plans are subject to change.
This year's RTM finish line is at Riverfront Park on Lake Flower. And I may be up to the challenge.
