Adirondack Paddling Symposium in Saranac Lake

The 2026 Adirondack Paddling Symposium is a paddlers mecca.

The Adirondack Paddling Symposium returns to Saranac Lake this June 12–15, 2026, bringing a full weekend of hands-on paddling instruction to the historic Harrietstown Town Hall.

Designed as an immersive outdoor skills event, the symposium focuses on beginner and intermediate paddlers eager to build confidence on the water—whether in kayaks, canoes, or the Adirondacks’ beloved pack boats.

This is not a passive, sit-and-listen kind of weekend. It’s an invitation to get better—technically, physically, and mentally—while exploring one of the most paddle-rich landscapes in the country.

A skill-building weekend for Adirondack paddlers.

At its core, the Adirondack Paddling Symposium is about progress. The curriculum is tailored to paddlers who know just enough to want more—and who are ready to refine technique, improve efficiency, and gain confidence on the water.

Participants choose from beginner and intermediate tracks across multiple craft types. Expect patient, experienced instructors who prioritize encouragement over ego. It’s a judgment-free environment where small breakthroughs—like dialing in a forward stroke or mastering a clean turn—add up quickly.

The Adirondacks offer more than 3,000 lakes and ponds and over 30,000 miles of rivers and streams. The better you paddle, the more of it becomes accessible.

What to expect: three days on and off the water.

The weekend unfolds with a steady rhythm: mornings and afternoons on the water, and evenings spent connecting with fellow paddlers, instructors, and local outfitters.

Friday sets the tone with check-in from 3–7 pm, followed by opening ceremonies at 6:30 pm and evening programs. The Vendor Village offers a chance to explore gear and demo boats—ideal for those considering an upgrade or trying something new.

Saturday and Sunday are the heart of the symposium:

  • 7:30–8:15 am: Breakfast

  • 9 am – noon: Morning classes

  • 2–5 pm: Afternoon sessions

  • Evenings: Socials, dinner, and instructor-led recaps

There’s a rhythm to it: paddle, learn, refine, repeat. By Sunday afternoon, most participants notice a meaningful shift in how they move through the water.

An optional “Tour Monday” extends the experience, offering guided paddles where newly learned skills meet real Adirondack terrain.
The schedule is subject to change, so be sure to consult the Symposium’s website.

Why this event stands out in the Adirondacks.

There’s no shortage of places to paddle in the Adirondacks—but structured opportunities to improve are rarer. That’s what makes this symposium distinct.

It blends technical instruction with the region’s natural advantage: quiet waterways, varied conditions, and a deep paddling culture. Add in local outfitters like St. Regis Canoe Outfitters and Mac's Canoe Livery, and you get a community-driven event that feels rooted rather than manufactured.

The optional Monday tour is where everything clicks. After a weekend of drills and feedback, paddlers take to Adirondack waters with a new level of awareness—and confidence. It’s equal parts test and reward.

Arrive early Friday if you’re renting gear. Outfitters can get busy, and having time to properly fit your boat and dial in your setup makes a noticeable difference once classes begin.

Plan your Adirondack paddling weekend.

The symposium runs June 12–15, 2026, with a base cost of $320 for the full weekend. That includes all classes, select meals, evening programming, yoga sessions, and socials. Lodging and gear are not included, but the Saranac Lake area offers everything from lakeside cabins to campgrounds.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own boats and paddling gear when possible. Rental options are available through regional outfitters.
