Late August gets complicated. College students are heading back to campus, school supplies have taken over the stores, and Labor Day is suddenly staring at the calendar. But in the Adirondacks, summer still has plenty on the schedule.
This week proves the point. The Depot Theatre in Westport opens Ring of Fire, its musical celebration of Johnny Cash.
In Wilmington, young riders take to the trails for the Hardy Kids MTB Race, while Schroon Lake Porch-Fest turns porches around town into stages for an afternoon of live music.

The Man in Black is bound for Westport. Ring of Fire brings Johnny Cash’s music, hard-lived stories and unmistakable American songbook to the intimate Depot Theatre from August 20 – September 6.
Paul Rudd, Nick Jonas and one stolen song walk into Indian Lake Theater. Power Ballad brings music, ambition and a very messy creative feud to the big screen.

Little wheels take on big Adirondack fun at Wilmington’s Hardy Kids MTB Race. Riders from pre-K through high school hit age-appropriate trails before gathering for a post-race cookout at the trailhead.
Schroon Lake turns up the volume August 29 when Porch-Fest brings live music to porches and gathering spots around the village. Wander from performance to performance and savor one of summer’s final Saturdays, Adirondack-style.
