Experience Eclipse 2024 at Lake Placid’s Cascade Welcome Center
Discover the wonders of the Adirondacks, the thrill of a total solar eclipse, and a free naturalist-led program.
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) will host “Totality on the Trails” at its Cascade Welcome Center. Explore the Adirondacks and witness a total solar eclipse with a naturalist-led interpretive program.
The Cascade Welcome Center is a year-round outdoor recreation and information center between Keene and Lake Placid in the Adirondack Park. It is a top-notch resource for visitor information and community-based recreation in the region. The center comprises an information building along Route 73 and a 12-mile trail network.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a solar eclipse in the wilds of the Adirondacks.
Along with 12 miles of trails, visitors will enjoy family-friendly crafts, activities, and great celestial views. In addition, you can enjoy the eclipse in a natural setting while recreating responsibly. Conditions on trails at higher elevations in early April are highly variable, fragile, and potentially hazardous. The Cascade Center provides an excellent alternative for those looking to experience the eclipse in the “Forever Wild” Adirondacks.
What you can expect at Cascade Welcome Center:
Indoor and outdoor viewing opportunities
South-facing views of the eclipse over the high peaks
12 miles of beautiful Adirondack trails
Crafts and activities
Knowledgeable staff
Bathrooms
Large parking area
Kindly note that ADK will not provide food or drinks, so please bring any necessary items to keep yourself comfortable throughout the event. However, you can refill your water bottle at the Cascade Welcome Center.
The ADK suggests registering in advance for this free event. Registration ensures participants will receive additional information leading up to it. Parking at the Center is first come, first served, and registration does NOT guarantee a parking spot.
