Liberty on the Lake Brings America’s 250th Celebration to Essex, NY
Essex, NY on Lake Champlain.
Nestled along the western shore of Lake Champlain in the Adirondack Lake Champlain Region, the Essex Independence Day Celebration returns July 3–4, 2026, with Liberty on the Lake, a two-day community celebration centered around Beggs Park and the historic waterfront village of Essex, New York.
From fireworks over Lake Champlain to a lively street fair, parade, family games, and an evening dance party, this patriotic weekend offers visitors a classic small-town Fourth of July wrapped in Adirondack charm.
Few places blend mountain scenery, historic streets, and waterfront views quite like Essex. During America's 250th anniversary, that setting becomes the backdrop for one of the region's most welcoming Independence Day celebrations.

Fireworks launch the celebration.
The festivities begin Friday, July 3, at 9 pm when fireworks burst above Lake Champlain, creating colorful reflections across the water. Sponsored by the Essex Volunteer Fire Department, the display draws both residents and visitors to the lakeshore for an unforgettable start to the holiday weekend.
Fireworks over Lake Champlain are just the start of Essex, NY’s, 4th of July festivities.
The combination of mountain silhouettes, historic architecture, and sparkling lake views makes this one of the most picturesque fireworks shows in the Adirondacks.
A full day of Fourth of July fun.
Saturday starts bright and early with the Revolution Run/Walk, a spirited 6.5K beginning at 8 am. Young runners then take center stage during the Little Rebels Run at 9:15 am, giving kids their own patriotic moment before the day's biggest events begin.
At 11 am, Essex's annual Fourth of July Parade rolls through the village, celebrating community pride with floats, music, and plenty of red, white, and blue.
After the parade, the action shifts to Beggs Park, where the Street Fair runs from 12 pm – 3 pm. Local businesses and restaurants join the festivities, along with live music, a bounce house, face painting, a dunk tank, and activities for families. Nearby, the Lakeside School at Black Kettle Farm hosts lawn games that invite everyone to linger a little longer.
Hungry visitors should make a point of stopping at the Essex Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser Food Tent, serving during the parade and street fair. It's a delicious way to support the volunteers who help make this community celebration possible.
The party continues after sunset.
While many Fourth of July celebrations wind down after the afternoon festivities, Essex keeps the energy going.
From 8 pm – 11 pm, Beggs Park transforms into a community block party with a live DJ, dancing, and neighbors gathering under the summer sky. It's a fitting finale to a weekend that celebrates both America's birthday and the close-knit spirit that defines this Adirondack lakeside village.
