Gore Mountain UltraTrax Challenges Walkers to Go the Distance in the Adirondacks
Gore Mountain in the southern Adirondacks.
If the Adirondacks have taught generations of hikers anything, it's that every summit is earned one step at a time.
Gore Mountain UltraTrax, coming to Gore Mountain in North Creek on July 19, 2026, embraces that philosophy with a unique endurance walking event that swaps speed for determination. Whether participants tackle 7 miles or all 28, this single-day challenge invites walkers, hikers, and ruckers to test themselves on one of the Adirondacks' most scenic mountain landscapes.
Unlike a traditional race, UltraTrax isn't about beating other competitors. It's about choosing a personal challenge, finding a steady rhythm, and discovering just how far body and mind can go together.

What is UltraTrax?
Participants choose one, two, three, or four 7-mile loops for distances of 7, 14, 21, or 28 miles. Everyone has up to 10 hours to complete their chosen distance, making the event approachable for experienced hikers, casual walkers, and endurance athletes alike.
Those looking for an additional challenge can complete the course while carrying a 10-, 20-, or 35-pound ruck, earning extra recognition and finisher swag.
It's a refreshing twist on endurance events: less about racing the clock and more about challenging personal limits.
Adirondack trails provide the perfect proving ground.
The 7-mile course climbs roughly 1,785 feet through Gore Mountain's forests before returning to the base area. Along the way, participants follow shaded woodland trails, creek-side paths, rocky sections, ski roads, and ridgelines that reveal occasional views across the surrounding Adirondack valleys.
Trekking through the woods.
Because much of the course remains under tree cover, walkers spend much of the day surrounded by cool mountain air, birdsong, and the scent of spruce and hardwood forests—even during the height of summer.
Every completed loop returns participants to the base before deciding whether to head back out for another round.

The optional rucking divisions give UltraTrax its distinctive personality. Participants can simply walk the course or carry additional weight to simulate military-style rucking or backpacking challenges. It makes the event appealing to everyone from recreational hikers to fitness enthusiasts preparing for bigger mountain adventures.
Support every step of the way.
Although the challenge is demanding, UltraTrax is designed to be welcoming.
Professionally timed results, clearly marked trails, aid stations approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles, volunteers, snacks, electrolytes, and water help participants stay focused on the journey instead of logistics. Finishers earn a commemorative patch, while those completing the upper levels can claim the coveted Grey Wolf medal.
The event also supports conservation, with a portion of registrations benefiting organizations that help protect public lands and trails.
ADK Taste recommendation.
Even if tackling only one loop, arrive early and allow time to enjoy North Creek before or after the event.
Bring trekking poles if they're part of your normal hiking routine, wear trail-tested footwear, and pack a dry change of clothes for the drive home.
Friends and family can spend the day exploring North Creek's restaurants, shops, rafting outfitters, and nearby hiking trails while participants are on the mountain.
