Pumpkins Take Flight at Lake George’s Pumpkin Chunkin’

Pumpkin ready for launch.

Halloween may be over, but Lake George has unfinished business with its pumpkins.

Pumpkin Chunkin’, hosted by Adirondack Pub & Brewery, returns Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 12 pm – 4 pm at the event field behind High Peaks Distilling, 1 Canada Street. Admission to the outdoor family event is free.

The premise is satisfyingly straightforward: pumpkins become projectiles, catapults supply the propulsion, and spectators enjoy the consequences. Food and beer add another reason to settle in for an afternoon at the southern end of Lake George Village.

Pumpkin launching in Lake George.

Pumpkin catapults anchor the afternoon, and the event follows a bring-your-own-pumpkin format. For anyone who has spent October admiring decorative gourds, November offers a rather different way to appreciate them.

Apple slingshots extend the airborne produce theme. Together, the activities give curious children and mechanically minded adults something to watch beyond the usual fall festival circuit. The appeal requires little explanation: a pumpkin starts on the ground, someone operates a contraption, and suddenly everyone looks up.

Families can also expect a giant slide and bounce house. Bonfires round out the outdoor gathering, while a food and beer truck provides refreshments. Specific menus and beer selections have not been announced.

Medieval entertainment at Adirondack Brewery’s fall event.

The 2026 lineup includes medieval performances and battle demonstrations, plus the always-popular Adirondack Dancing Witches and music. An agreeably improbable combination: part seasonal send-off, part medieval spectacle, with a brewery hosting the proceedings.

The Great Pumpkin Drop closes the event. Visitors hoping to catch that finale should plan to stay through the closing portion of the afternoon; a separate drop time has not been published.

Halloween Pumpkin.

For Adirondack travelers and residents, the timing is useful. Pumpkin Chunkin’ gives families a specific reason to gather in Lake George after Halloween, extending the outdoor event calendar into November without relying on peak foliage as the attraction. Here, the pumpkins provide their own scenery.

Meet the Adirondack Dancing Witches.

Flying pumpkins won’t be the only things drawing attention. The Adirondack Dancing Witches are also in the lineup, bringing elaborate costumes, decorated broomsticks, and classic rock.

In this episode of ADK Talks, three members share how a German dance tradition inspired an Adirondack troupe—and how the group became about much more than hats and choreography.

Meet the women behind the broomsticks in ADK Talks’ “The Dancing Witches: From the Harz Mountains to the Adirondacks.”

Watch the physics of pumpkin chunkin’.

Science Channel’s “The Physics of ‘Punkin Chunkin’” offers an introduction to the mechanics behind sending pumpkins airborne. The video covers the broader activity, rather than Adirondack Brewery’s event; its equipment and competition footage should not be taken as a preview of the Lake George setup.

Science Channel explores the physics of pumpkin launching. This explainer does not depict Pumpkin Chunkin’ in Lake George.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Families planning to participate should remember the BYOP requirement before leaving home. Warm layers and sturdy shoes also make sense for an outdoor November afternoon, especially for visitors staying for the Great Pumpkin Drop.

The event field address is 1 Canada Street; attendees should use that location when planning their arrival rather than the pub’s dining-room address. Anyone enjoying beer should drink responsibly and arrange a designated driver.
