Seagle Festival celebrates a master of American music.

Seagle Festival heads to Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake on Thursday, September 17 at 7 pm with Life is Happiness Indeed: The Music of Leonard Bernstein, a live concert featuring music from West Side Story, Candide, Trouble in Tahiti, On the Town, and more.

Performed by the Seagle Festival Fall Artists, the program celebrates a composer whose work comfortably crossed the boundaries between Broadway, opera, classical music and jazz.

That makes Bernstein particularly well suited to a concert like this one. Audiences can expect romantic melodies, comic flourishes, energetic ensemble pieces and some of the most recognizable music in the American theatrical canon.

Two Adirondack arts institutions come together.

The performance also creates an appealing Adirondack cultural pairing: Seagle Festival, based in Schroon Lake, taking the stage at Pendragon Theatre, one of Saranac Lake's longtime performing arts institutions.

For visitors spending September in Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, or the northern Adirondacks, it's a chance to build an evening around live theater and music rather than waiting for the next rainy day to look for something indoors.

Bernstein deserves better than being the backup plan.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Come into Saranac Lake early. A 7 pm performance leaves plenty of time to explore downtown and have an early dinner before settling in for the concert.

The concert is an excellent choice for couples, theater enthusiasts, classical music fans, and anyone looking to add a memorable cultural experience to an Adirondack getaway.
