Each January, the sound of skates carving fresh ice and the crack of the puck against the boards signal one of winter’s most anticipated community sporting events in the Tri-Lakes region.

From January 9–11, 2026, the 10th Annual Phil Edwards Memorial Hockey Tournament returns to the Tupper Lake Memorial Civic Center, bringing a full weekend of fast-paced hockey, hometown pride, and meaningful community support to the heart of the Adirondacks.

Now in its milestone 10th year, this adult-level tournament has become one of the Adirondack’s fastest-growing hockey events, drawing teams from across the region to compete for the coveted Phil Edwards Trophy—and plenty of bragging rights along the way.

A weekend of competitive, high-energy hockey.

The Phil Edwards Hockey Tournament is an 18+ adult tournament, but it’s a spectator-friendly event that’s especially fun for families and young hockey fans. Games run from Friday through Sunday, with a steady lineup of competitive matchups that showcase skill, teamwork, and the pure joy of the game.

For kids who are curious about hockey—or already dreaming of lacing up skates—this tournament offers an up-close look at the sport in action. Watching adult players compete at a high level can inspire young athletes and spark interest in local youth hockey programs.

Best of all, spectator admission is entirely free, making it an easy and affordable winter outing for families.

Honoring Phil Edwards and supporting the next generation.

This tournament is about far more than wins and losses. All proceeds from the weekend benefit the Tupper Lake Youth Hockey Association and the Phil Edwards Scholarship, helping ensure that young players in the community have access to equipment, ice time, and opportunities to grow in the sport.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can also stop by the raffle table, featuring a wide variety of items donated by supporters. Every ticket purchased helps strengthen local youth programs and continues the legacy behind the tournament’s namesake.

Community members interested in giving back can volunteer or donate by emailing tlpeht@yahoo.com.
