About the artist.
Ellen Few Anderson exhibit in Whallonsburg.
Ellen Few Anderson is an abstract artist who has lived and painted in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York since 2006.
Ellen's summers have always been infused with the charm and serenity of Westport, NY, where she has cherished moments in the historic home her great-great-grandfather, Colonel Francis Lee, designed and built in 1848. This picturesque setting has been her sanctuary, a place where family legacy intertwines with the beauty of nature.
A globetrotter drawn back to the Adirondacks.
Ellen’s childhood was a tapestry woven with diverse cultures and experiences. After spending five years in Massachusetts, she spent three years in Japan, followed by two years in Germany.
However, according to Ellen’s artist statement, the most transformative chapter unfolded in Rome, Italy, where she lived from ages 11 to 17. It was in this vibrant city that her artistic spirit ignited, culminating in her high school graduation, before she returned to the United States to pursue her degree at Duke University (1965-1969; BA in Art Studio and Art History).
Ellen’s wanderlust led her to spend two summers in Malaysia, where she immersed herself in the vibrant local culture, and she dedicated another summer to cycling through the picturesque landscapes of Burgundy, France.
Each journey added a rich layer to her extensive international education, nurturing both her artistic vision and her understanding of the world.
Ellen Few Anderson’s work on display at Whitcomb’s Gallery in Whallonsburg, NY, from now until December 21, 2025.
For 30 years, she poured her passion into teaching Painting, Drawing, and Art History at a small, engaging college, while also earning a Master of Visual Design from the School of Design at NCSU. Balancing her teaching career with the joys of raising two wonderful children, Ellen has now embraced her true calling as a full-time painter, translating her life experiences and rich cultural tapestry onto canvas with elegance and flair.
