Indian Lake Theater Presents “A Minecraft Movie”
A mysterious portal pulls four misfits into a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity is not only important for crafting but also essential for survival. Four misfits—Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks)—struggle with their everyday problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a strange, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
To return home, they must master this new world while also protecting it from various dangers, like Piglins and Zombies. They embark on a magical quest alongside an unexpected expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five of them to be bold and reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative—the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
A family-friendly option and a must-see for Minecraft fanatics.
Directed by Jared Hess, “A Minecraft Movie" is targeted for tween and teen fans of the popular video game, Minecraft. While the sandbox game has fans of all ages, the film's marketing and overall feel heavily cater to younger audiences, particularly those aged 13-24.

Writing for the Wall Street Journal, film critic Kyle Smith notes “Mr. Hess and his five screenwriters have mined childhood to craft something that’s alive with imagination. It’s not the most polished movie you’ll see this year, but it’s as cheerfully mad as a little kid’s birthday party. We could use more of that.”
Similarly, The Sun (UK), Linda Marric advises that the film makes for a great family outing. She wrote, “While it may not be a masterpiece, its sheer sense of fun makes it an easy win for families looking for something to watch” together.
Verified viewers were very positive about the film on RottenTomatoes.com. Comments included, “My teenagers loved the movie. Laughed so hard. Worth seeing!” and “I thought the movie was very entertaining and funny to both the adults and children in our group.”
“A Minecraft Movie” plays May 15 to 18. Showtimes are 7 pm Thursday through Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday.
