One of summer’s biggest blockbusters is making an Adirondack stop. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is playing at The Strand at Schroon Lake in Schroon Lake, NY, from Friday, August 14 through Thursday, August 27, bringing Tom Holland’s latest Marvel adventure to one of the small-town movie theaters that make seeing movies in the Adirondacks a distinctly different experience.

The PG-13 film runs 2 hours 25 minutes. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and seniors; The Strand accepts cash only. There will be no showing Monday, August 17, when the theater hosts its Classic Movie Monday series instead. Moviegoers should check The Strand’s website or Facebook page for current nightly showtimes before heading out.

Film synopsis.

Four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is living with the consequences of a remarkable sacrifice: the world no longer remembers him.

Now an adult and largely alone, Peter devotes himself to protecting New York City full-time as Spider-Man. But the pressure of watching his former friends move forward without him begins to take a toll—and sparks an unexpected physical transformation. At the same time, a disturbing pattern of crimes points toward a formidable new threat that Spider-Man cannot even see.

It is a story that returns Peter Parker to one of the character’s most enduring themes: what happens when the responsibility of being Spider-Man collides with the very human need for connection?

Watch the official trailer.

The official Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer offers a preview of the action, scale, and more emotionally isolated Peter Parker moviegoers will see at The Strand at Schroon Lake.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo, Sadie Sink and a considerably expanded Marvel cast in the official trailer.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day plays at The Strand in Schroon Lake from August 14–27, giving Adirondack audiences another chance to catch the summer blockbuster on the big screen.

Cast, director, and a new chapter for Spider-Man.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. The ensemble also brings Mark Ruffalo back as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, alongside Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman and Michael Mando.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton, whose credits include Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, takes over the franchise for this installment. Rather than leaning heavily on the multiverse spectacle of No Way Home, Brand New Day shifts attention back toward Peter himself—older, more isolated and confronting what his life as Spider-Man has cost him.

What critics are saying.

The early critical response has been strong, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a 90% Tomatometer score in its initial review roundup. Critics have particularly praised the film’s more grounded, mature approach to Peter Parker and Cretton’s energetic direction.

Zendaya stars in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Not everyone has been completely won over. Time Out awarded the film three stars, praising Holland and Zendaya while arguing that parts of the story struggle to make the familiar Marvel formula feel genuinely fresh. That tension may actually make Brand New Day more interesting: it is both a major franchise spectacle and an attempt to pull Spider-Man back toward a more personal story.

With a July 31 theatrical release, this is not so much a rediscovery as a chance to catch one of the summer’s biggest movies without a drive to a multiplex.

Why see Spider-Man in Schroon Lake?

There is something wonderfully incongruous about watching Spider-Man swing through Manhattan while sitting in a theater in Schroon Lake.

Independent theaters in the Adirondack Park offer something the megaplex cannot quite replicate: a movie becomes part of an evening in town rather than an excursion to a commercial complex. Dinner nearby, a walk along the lake and a film at The Strand can still constitute an entire night out.

For residents and visitors looking for things to do in Schroon Lake, NY, this weekend—or searching for films playing in the Adirondacks this week—*Spider-Man: Brand New Day* offers blockbuster scale in a decidedly small-town setting.

🎯 ADK Taste recommendation: See this one on the biggest screen available; Spider-Man was made for a dark theater and an audience.
