Best Fourth in the North Returns Bigger Than Ever for America’s 250th Celebration

Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday in Ticonderoga, NY.

For generations, the Best Fourth in the North has been one of the Adirondacks’ signature Independence Day traditions.

In 2026, the celebration grows even larger as downtown Ticonderoga welcomes the return of a full carnival midway, live entertainment, fireworks, food vendors, and community festivities during America’s 250th anniversary year.

Taking place July 1–5 at Bicentennial Park in Ticonderoga, this five-day Adirondack Independence Day celebration combines small-town charm with the energy of a classic summer carnival. Visitors can expect the scent of fried dough and sausage-and-peppers drifting through the midway, the glow of carnival lights after sunset, and one of the North Country's most beloved Fourth of July traditions.

Whether arriving from Lake George, Schroon Lake, Crown Point, or Vermont's Champlain Valley, travelers will find plenty of reasons to make Ticonderoga part of their holiday weekend plans.

A classic carnival returns to Ticonderoga.

One of the biggest additions to the 2026 celebration is the return of a full-scale carnival midway operated by Amusements of America.

For the first time in many years, visitors will find 16 rides, classic carnival games, and plenty of nostalgic midway treats. Thrill seekers can test their courage on rides such as Vertigo, Freefall, Polar Express, and Top Gun. At the same time, families can enjoy favorites including the Ferris Wheel, Giant Slide, Speedway, and Candy Factory.

Younger children will have their own collection of rides, including the Merry-Go-Round, Frog Ride, SeaDoo Ride, Quads, and VW Cars.

Of course, no carnival feels complete without cotton candy, funnel cakes, fried dough, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and all the wonderfully indulgent foods that somehow taste even better during a summer holiday weekend.

Adirondacks live music, food, and fireworks.

The celebration extends well beyond the midway.

From July 1–4, visitors can enjoy live music performances, food vendors, and a beer garden at Bicentennial Park. The festive atmosphere creates an ideal gathering place for both visitors and locals looking to celebrate summer in the Adirondacks.

July 4 remains the centerpiece of the event schedule. The day begins with the Montcalm Mile Run before shifting into one of the region's most anticipated traditions: the Best Fourth in the North Parade.

As evening falls, spectators gather for the fireworks display that has delighted generations of families and helped establish Ticonderoga's reputation as one of the Adirondacks’ premier Independence Day destinations.

Fort Ticonderoga and America's 250th anniversary.

The timing of this year's celebration is especially meaningful.

As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, nearby Fort Ticonderoga will host major Revolutionary War programming and historical reenactments. Together, the fort and the Best Fourth in the North create a uniquely Adirondack Independence Day experience where history, community, and celebration intersect.

Few places in America can combine authentic Revolutionary War history with carnival rides, live music, and lakeside mountain scenery quite like Ticonderoga.

The Fourth of July parade and evening fireworks remain the signature moments of the weekend. Visitors planning only one day should target July 4 to experience the event at its fullest.

Arrive early on July 4 and make a full day of it. Spend the morning exploring Fort Ticonderoga, grab lunch downtown, enjoy the parade, and stay for the fireworks. Parking becomes increasingly limited as evening approaches, particularly near Bicentennial Park.

Why families and travelers should attend.

The Best Fourth in the North succeeds because it appeals to nearly everyone. Families will appreciate the rides and games. History enthusiasts can explore Fort Ticonderoga. Food lovers can sample classic carnival fare. Travelers searching for an authentic Adirondack community celebration will find exactly that.

In an era of increasingly commercialized events, Ticonderoga's Independence Day tradition still feels refreshingly local while offering enough activities to fill an entire holiday weekend.
