Savor the Season at the Friends of the Town of Chester Library Wine Tasting

The perfect way to spend a early fall sunday afternoon.

Early fall in the Adirondacks calls for good food, a glass of wine and perhaps a little competitive bidding.

The Friends of the Town of Chester Library Annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction brings all three to The Bond 1786 in Warrensburg, NY, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2–5 pm. The annual fundraiser pairs curated wines and mocktails with appetizers, a tempting silent auction and raffle prizes—all benefiting the Town of Chester Public Library.

For visitors exploring the Lake George and Gore Mountain region, it is also a rather civilized way to spend a September Sunday: settle in with friends, sample a few pours and see what treasures are waiting for a bid.

Wine, food and bidding at The Bond 1786.

The wine tasting is only the beginning. Guests can sample curated wines and nonalcoholic mocktails accompanied by appetizers while sizing up an assortment of silent auction items donated by area businesses, artists and supporters.

Some wine, a nosh, and great items up for bid.

Past auctions have included handcrafted works by local artists, sommelier-selected wines, rounds of golf, Adirondack lodging, fine jewelry and gift certificates for restaurants, food purveyors and local shops.

Raffle prizes add another element of suspense. In other words, arriving with a bidding strategy may not be entirely unreasonable.

A fall Adirondack event with local impact.

The afternoon is a fundraiser, but its impact continues long after the last glass is poured.

In 2025, the Friends provided nearly $10,000 to supplement the Town of Chester Public Library budget. The organization also supports programs and resources including Hoopla digital media and the local Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which sends free books to young children.

The Friends help maintain the Story Book Trail at Dynamite Hill, have supported a college scholarship for a North Warren Central School graduate and distributed free children’s books through the Rotary Christmas Party.

For a rural Adirondack community, those investments help stretch library resources well beyond books on shelves, supporting literacy, technology, education and access to information.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Make the silent auction part of the plan rather than an afterthought. Arrive early enough to enjoy the tasting, browse the auction at leisure and identify the items worth watching before bidding heats up.

An easy addition to a Lake George or Gore Mountain weekend.

The Bond 1786 sits in Warrensburg, between Lake George and Chestertown and within easy reach of the Gore Mountain region. That makes the Wine Tasting an easy Sunday-afternoon addition for second-home owners and fall travelers as well as Town of Chester residents.

The timing doesn't hurt, either. September brings the first hints of autumn to the southern Adirondacks, when warm afternoons and cooler evenings make lingering over wine and appetizers feel particularly well advised.
