The Lake George Triathlon Festival returns to Lake George Village in the southern Adirondacks September 5–6, 2026, bringing two days of swimming, cycling and running to Lake George Beach, better known as Million Dollar Beach. This year’s USA Triathlon-sanctioned event doubles as the USAT New York North State Championship, with courses ranging from an approachable Open division to a Long Course worthy of a very substantial post-race breakfast.

Athletes begin with what may be the weekend’s greatest perk: an open-water swim in Lake George. From there, bike courses head into the Adirondack foothills before runners finish along the lake, making scenery an unusually generous consolation when the legs start lodging complaints.

Four Lake George triathlon distances offer something for different athletes.

The festival offers four distances in 2026. The Open includes a 100-meter swim, 2-mile bike and 1-mile run. The Sprint steps up to a 750-meter swim, 12.4-mile bike and 3-mile run.

The Olympic covers a 1,500-meter swim, 24.7-mile bike and 6.2-mile run, while the Long Course delivers the weekend’s serious endurance test: a 1.2-mile swim, 56.2-mile bike and 13.1-mile run.

The Long Course and Open races take place Saturday. Sprint and Olympic competitors take over Sunday morning.

Labor Day weekend racing starts early in the Adirondacks.

Saturday’s Long Course waves begin at 7 am. On Sunday, Sprint waves start at 6:30 am, followed by Olympic competition beginning at approximately 7:10 am.

The weekend also includes packet pickup, athlete meetings, an Alpha Win Fitness Expo, finish-line festivities and awards ceremonies. Spectators can watch for free, making this one of the more energetic ways to spend Labor Day weekend in Lake George without personally owning a wetsuit.

Competitors must register in advance and have a USA Triathlon membership. Athletes should consult the official Lake George Triathlon website for registration, current schedules, course maps, parking information and race-day policies.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Athletes should arrive early and treat race-day logistics as seriously as their transition times. Spectators will get the best sense of the event near Million Dollar Beach, where the swim, transition area and finish-line energy converge. Afterward, Lake George Village is close enough for coffee, lunch or the time-honored endurance-sport tradition of ordering something enormous.

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) returns as the festival’s official charity beneficiary. The accredited land trust works throughout the Lake George watershed to protect land, water quality, wildlife habitat and the landscapes surrounding the lake.

That connection feels particularly appropriate here. Competitors are not merely racing beside Lake George; the lake and its surrounding mountains are fundamental parts of the course experience.

Hear the people protecting Lake George.

In this ADK Talks episode, voices from the Lake George Land Conservancy’s annual Hike-A-Thon reveal why protecting the Lake George watershed matters to the people who experience it firsthand.

ADK Talks goes on location at the Lake George Land Conservancy Hike-A-Thon to hear from participants exploring protected lands throughout the Lake George watershed.

The episode adds local context to the landscapes athletes will swim, bike and run through during the Lake George Triathlon Festival.
