Long View Lodge Restaurant
Everything old is new again at this historic vacation spot on Long Lake.
For over a hundred years, there has been a Long View Lodge on this beautiful spot overlooking Long Lake in the Central Adirondacks.
When we first started chronicling choice spots in the ADK, Papa Bear immediately recommended Long View Lodge. He and Mama Bear have surprisingly vivid memories of visiting as young marrieds (pre-Lil’ ADKers) with his middle school teacher colleagues.
Many people don’t know this, but teachers are party animals, especially middle school teachers. Can you imagine being cooped up with a horde of adolescents for 180 days each year? You’d be ready to go on an Adult Spring Break every other week.
Papa Bear was beyond elated to hear that Long View Lodge is still operating. In fact, long-time Long Lakers, the Hosley family (as in Hoss’s Country Corner), bought the property in 2017. Brothers Matt, Nate, Trip, and chef Ben Paula are now the proprietors of this legendary institution. The same crew owned and operated several establishments in food mecca San Francisco, so you know they got it going on.
The wood-beamed dining room and pine-paneled bar will make you feel at home. The menu offers straightforward and mouth-watering seasonal fare. You might start your meal with a bowl of New England Clam & Scallop Chowder. Follow that up with the Grilled Rib Eye with Horseradish Cream, parmesan asparagus, and seasoned fries. Or, if you’re a middle-school-teacher-gone-wild, you might be tempted by the Snake River Farms Wagyu Beef Jumbo Hot Dog, topped with chili, white onion, and cheddar & jack cheeses. It comes with a salad, so that makes it a healthy choice.
And that’s just the regular menu. They love to cook up something special. Fresh guacamole with homemade chips. Maybe some seared ahi tuna or shrimp with pasta. Oysters on the half shell. We don’t know what they are going to do next.
The Long View Lodge still operates as a hotel. The establishment includes several lovely ADK rustic-themed accommodations and two cabins as part of the Long View Lodge Hotel. You can also get your electronic vehicle charged there, as well.
Next time you’re in Long Lake, make a point to stop by for some refreshment. You might bump into Papa Bear at the bar.
