Located in the heart of New York State, the expansive Adirondack Park stands as a crucial sanctuary for a diverse array of migratory bird species.

This vast and largely undisturbed landscape is particularly vital for many birds that are experiencing alarming declines across their traditional habitats.

Among the remarkable features of the Adirondacks is the presence of boreal peatlands, where unique avian life thrives, creating a rich tapestry of birdlife that defines this region.

Experts and scientists warn that climate change presents an unprecedented threat to biodiversity in the 21st century.

It endangers both the delicate ecosystems within Adirondack Park and the many species that depend on these habitats for survival.

As the southern boundary for this type of ecosystem and many of its bird species, the Adirondack Park is a valuable location for monitoring changes in bird populations due to climate change.

Long-term studies of boreal birds in the Adirondacks indicate that land-use patterns may affect how these birds respond to climate change. This underscores the importance of maintaining patchy habitat distribution and has significant implications for conservation strategies in these areas.

Attend this lecture at Newcomb’s Adirondack Interpretive Center to learn more about ongoing research and scientific investigations related to the factors impacting the Adirondack Park and its flora and fauna.
