The Art Of Local Farmers At Whitcomb’s Arts
A winter exhibition rooted in New York’s Champlain Valley
New York’s Champlain Valley.
Mid-winter in the Adirondacks invites reflection, creativity, and connection to the land—and Harvest: The Art of Local Farmers does exactly that.
Now on view through March 21, 2026, this thoughtfully curated exhibition at Whitcomb’s Arts celebrates the creative work of farmers who transform the raw materials of their daily lives into compelling works of art.
Located in Whallonsburg, Whitcomb’s Arts presents this hand-picked show as part of its ongoing mission to showcase regional talent and stories that reflect the Champlain Valley’s working landscape. For visitors seeking meaningful cultural events in the Adirondacks during the quieter winter season, this exhibit offers both inspiration and insight.
Where farming and art intersect.
The Champlain Valley is home to a vibrant community of small, diversified farms—and a surprising number of working artists who also labor on the land. Harvest: The Art of Local Farmers highlights this intersection, drawing a direct line between agricultural practice and artistic process.

“Both farmers and artists transform raw materials into products that have value and meaning,” said co-curator Michelle Parker. “Both require dedication, growth from practice, and an overarching vision.” That shared ethos anchors the exhibition, which features eleven farmer-artists whose creative work reflects their lived experience and surroundings.
Meet the farmer-artists.
The exhibition showcases work from eleven artists, each bringing a distinct voice shaped by their farm and craft:
Michael Champagne (North Point Community Farm)
Zach Clemans (Sandy’s Supper Club and Landscape Paintings)
Cynthia Ford-Johnston (DaCy Meadow Farm)
Doliah Francis (Sand River Community Farm)
William Glaser Wilson (Essex Farm)
Lotta Hauswaldt (Essex Farm)
Kirsten Liebl (Wollecru)
Joanie McMahon (Essex Farm)
Benji Shankwitz (Mace Chasm Farm)
Gizella Spencer (North Point Community Farm)
Susie Tarnowicz (Sugar House Creamery)
Together, their work reflects a shared connection to place while spanning a wide range of styles and materials.
Materials with a story.
This mid-winter show features paintings, textiles, block prints, ink drawings, ceramics, and sculptures. The materials themselves—fleece, wood, metal, paint, ink, canvas, paper, clay, and found objects—mirror the tools and textures of farm life. Visitors will notice how everyday agricultural materials and rhythms reappear in thoughtful, often tactile ways throughout the gallery.
