Labor Day weekend may signal the unofficial end of summer, but the Adirondacks aren't winding down quietly. It's one of the region's busiest late-summer weekends, with festivals, concerts, community celebrations and outdoor events happening from Lake George to the High Peaks and beyond.
A little advance planning goes a long way. Popular hotels, restaurants and campgrounds can fill up, particularly in Lake George and Lake Placid, and some events draw crowds well beyond their hometowns. Make dinner reservations when possible and allow extra time for parking and getting around on event days.
Adirondack weather also has a mind of its own. Warm afternoons can turn into cool evenings quickly, especially near the water and at higher elevations, so layers are a good idea. Outdoor events may also change schedules because of weather.
