Lake Placid 2026 Loppet Celebrates Nordic Skiing at its Finest
Competitors in the Lake Placid Loppet.
Every January, Nordic skiers from across the region—and far beyond—set their sights on Lake Placid for one of the Adirondacks’ most iconic winter endurance events. On Sunday, January 25, 2026, the Lake Placid Loppet returns to the legendary trails of Mt Van Hoevenberg, offering a full slate of races that welcome elite competitors, recreational skiers, families, and first-timers alike.
More than a race, the Loppet stands as a celebration of cross-country skiing in all its forms—classic and free technique, long-haul endurance and short-course fun. It’s also a reminder of why Lake Placid remains one of North America’s premier winter sports destinations.
A legendary course with Olympic roots.
The heart of the Lake Placid Loppet lies in its course design. The 50 km Loppet and 25 km Kort Loppet follow a demanding 25 km loop that traverses every corner of the Olympic Legacy Trails at Mt Van Hoevenberg.
Skiers tackle the same terrain that challenged the world’s best athletes during the 1980 Olympic Games, including sustained climbs, fast descents, and technical sections that test endurance and skill.

This course has earned a reputation as one of the most demanding Loppet routes in the world. Climbs reward strong technique and pacing, while descents demand focus and confidence.
For experienced skiers, the loop delivers a thrilling test of fitness. For spectators, it offers nonstop action in a setting steeped in Olympic history.
Courses for every age and ability.
The Lake Placid Loppet takes pride in being accessible to all. Skiers new to the sport—or those seeking a faster, more relaxed outing—can choose from 2 km, 7.5 km, and 13 km Ski Challenge courses. These routes avoid the steepest terrain and provide a welcoming introduction to racing in a world-class venue.
This inclusive approach makes the Loppet a true community event. Families cheer on young skiers. Friends gather at trail crossings. Seasoned racers and first-timers share the same finish-line excitement. It’s Nordic skiing at its most joyful.
