Winter in the central Adirondacks gets a cinematic glow-up when Indian Lake Theater rolls out the red carpet for the Robert Redford Film Festival, running Thursday, January 29, through Sunday, February 1, 2026.

This four-day celebration honors one of America’s most enduring actors, directors, and cultural tastemakers, featuring nine iconic films spanning decades of unforgettable performances and storytelling.

Generously sponsored by Westport Interactive Media, the festival is designed to bring warmth, energy, and connection to the heart of winter—inviting both locals and visitors to linger in downtown Indian Lake, enjoy a meal, browse local shops, and experience the magic of a small-town theater doing something special.

Why Robert Redford still matters.

Born in 1936, Robert Redford rose to prominence in the 1960s and quickly became one of the most recognizable faces in American cinema. But his legacy goes far beyond the leading-man roles. Over a career spanning more than five decades,

Redford reshaped Hollywood as a director, producer, and champion of independent film.

In 1981, he founded the Sundance Institute, a move that permanently altered the film industry by elevating independent voices and socially conscious storytelling. Whether skiing downhill, robbing trains, chasing political ideals, or navigating complicated love stories, Redford’s films reflect a deep curiosity about people, power, and place—making them especially resonant in a community that values art, environment, and authenticity.
