2025 Teddy Roosevelt Weekend in Newcomb, NY

One of America’s most respected Presidents was also a great lover of all things Adirondack.

It's well known that Teddy Roosevelt was an avid outdoorsman and lover of adventure. He frequently visited the Adirondacks.

In fact, during one of his trips to the ADK while serving as Vice President, he learned of President McKinley's assassination and, consequently, that he would assume the presidency.

This event is the origin story of TR's famous midnight ride to the presidency.

TR — A born conservationist.

As a natural conservationist, Theodore Roosevelt was a lifelong advocate for the environment. He passionately promoted the conservation movement, emphasizing the responsible use of natural resources.

During his impactful term as the 33rd Governor of New York from 1899 to 1900, Roosevelt focused on policies related to the state's forests and wildlife. He fought against what he called "the depredations of man," took action to combat recurrent forest fires, and worked to strengthen fish and game laws.

Roosevelt's stewardship of New York's forests, particularly in the Adirondack Park, led to the development of some of the most advanced conservation and wilderness protection laws in the country.

As President, Theodore Roosevelt dramatically expanded the national parks and national forests system.
