The Adirondacks are home to a variety of museums – natural history, fine art, historic landmarks, and more. For classical music and opera lovers, The Sembrich Opera Museum in Bolton Landing, NY, is a must-visit destination.

This hidden gem museum is dedicated to the iconic opera singer Marcella Sembrich. The museum is housed in Madame Sembrich’s former summer residence and teaching studio on a peaceful and picturesque Lake George peninsula surrounded by towering pines and sparkling water. The museum is an excellent place to learn about music and history and to discover an opera legend who played a significant role in the world of music.

Marcella Sembrich was born in Poland in 1858. She was a dramatic coloratura soprano, and her voice was regarded as flute-like, sweet, pure, light, and brilliant. Mme. Sembrich's career spanned over three decades, including many performances in the most important opera houses in Europe and America and residencies at the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House in London. Her contribution to the music world is still celebrated, and The Sembrich Opera Museum aims to preserve her legacy.

The museum features a collection of Sembrich's personal belongings, including costumes, photographs, letters, and other artifacts that offer visitors insight into her life, artistic career, and contribution to the opera world.

Attending a concert is an excellent way to experience the property. The museum hosts live performances regularly and offers visitors a unique opportunity to hear live music in an intimate setting that once belonged to Sembrich.

Aside from the museum and the concert hall, the Sembrich Opera Museum offers various events and programs throughout the year, including lectures, workshops, and masterclasses, to name a few. These events are aimed at educating visitors on various music topics while providing a unique cultural experience.

While visiting the museum, visitors may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the beautiful grounds. Dogs are welcome on the grounds, as well, but must be leashed. And we know we don’t need to remind you to pick up after them. Neither food nor drink nor dogs are allowed in the museum.
