Geminid Meteor Shower Returns to Light Up Adirondack Skies

The brightest meteor shower of the year is set to dazzle the Adirondacks once again. The 2025 Geminid meteor shower peaks late on December 13 into the early hours of December 14, offering one of winter’s most breathtaking celestial displays.
Known for their slow, colorful streaks—often yellow, orange, or even green—the Geminids typically produce up to 100+ meteors per hour under dark, clear skies.
And with the Adirondack Park’s famously low light pollution, skywatchers here get a front-row seat to the show.
Best time to watch.
Peak viewing: Late night December 13 through pre-dawn December 14, although you may see some meteor activity as early as 9 pm.
Best visibility: After midnight, with the radiant in Gemini high overhead by 2 am.
For the most vivid viewing, give your eyes 20–30 minutes to adjust to the darkness.

You don’t need a telescope—just a dark, open spot with a clear view of the sky. Great options include:
