About the performers.
Described as an “excellent soloist” of “great virtuosity” (NY Concert Review), delivering “thrilling” performances (Boston Globe), Venezuelan violinist Rubén Rengel is quickly gaining recognition as a remarkably gifted artist.

Mexican soprano Rosario Armas.
Rubén was the winner of the Robert F. Smith Prize at the 2018 Sphinx Competition, and he has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Vermont Symphony, and Venezuela Symphony, among others.
Rosario Armas is a New York-based Mexican mezzo-soprano who has garnered recognition for her remarkable portrayals in opera productions. Her notable roles include Suora Zelatrice in "Suor Angelica," Cherubino in W. Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro," Angelina in Rossini's "La Cenerentola," Dorabella in Mozart's "Così fan Tutte," Juana in Carla Lucero's "La Opera Juana," and Suzuki in "Madame Butterfly."
Pianist, composer, and conductor Ahmed Alom’s artistry bridges classical and popular traditions, earning him recognition as “one of the most versatile artists in the Western Hemisphere” (Diario de Mallorca). His unique voice blends the rigor and structure of classical training with the rhythmic and harmonic richness of his Cuban heritage, forging connections between the past and the music of today.

The Flonzaley Residency provides a talented individual or group of musicians with a week-long opportunity at The Sembrich, allowing them to utilize the studio for rehearsal and performance.
This residency was established in honor of the Flonzaley Quartet, which was founded by arts patron and Sembrich colleague Edward de Coppet in 1903. Mr. de Coppet opened his Swiss estate to artists each summer and created the quartet under the principle that its members would not accept outside engagements or take on students. The musicians dedicated themselves entirely to perfecting their art.
With this noble goal in mind, The Sembrich invited the Hyperion String Quartet to be the first-ever quartet-in-residence in 2010. During their residency, the quartet rehearsed and delivered memorable performances of various works, ranging from Mozart and Shostakovich to Tan Dun and Giuseppe Verdi, among others.
Other groups that have been awarded the residency include the Brooklyn Art Song Society, the Villalobos Brothers, WindSync, and the Utzturu Strings from Romania.
