From storefront signage to product packaging and the quiet geometry of suburban life, the everyday American landscape is full of details most people pass by without a second glance. Readily Available: Paintings by Richard Garrison, on view at the Lake George Arts Project Courthouse Gallery from January 21 through February 21, 2026, invites viewers to slow down—and look again.

This winter exhibition offers a thoughtful, visually engaging counterpoint to the bustle of Lake George Village, making it a smart stop for art lovers, winter visitors, and locals looking for something quietly compelling to do in the Adirondacks.

An exhibition that elevates the everyday.

In Readily Available, Richard Garrison turns his attention to the ordinary objects and systems that shape modern life: advertisements, online shopping interfaces, product labels, and the visual rhythms of suburbia. Through abstract drawings and watercolor paintings, Garrison distills these familiar elements using meticulous processes such as color matching, measuring, and photography.

The result feels both analytical and intimate. What might seem unremarkable at first glance becomes layered with meaning as color, space, and time unfold across each piece. Garrison’s work rewards close looking—and repeated visits—revealing how much visual richness hides in plain sight.

Meet the artist: A nationally recognized voice.

An Albany native, Garrison earned his B.S. in Studio Art from the College of Saint Rose and his MFA from Cornell University. His work has appeared in exhibitions across the U.S. and internationally, including the Queens Museum of Art and Mass MoCA.

That depth of experience is evident in this exhibition, which balances conceptual rigor with an accessible visual language—perfect for both seasoned art viewers and the simply curious.

Artist reception: A reason to plan a visit.

Visitors can deepen their experience at the Artist’s Reception on Saturday, January 24, from 4:00–6:00 pm, held at the Courthouse Gallery. Garrison will speak about his work at 5:00 pm, offering insight into his process and the ideas behind the paintings. The reception is free and open to the public, making it an easy addition to a winter weekend in Lake George.

A gallery worth seeking out.
