Rustic Fair Brings Adirondack Craftsmanship to Blue Mountain Lake

An example of rustic-style furnishings.

For one September weekend, the Rustic Fair at Adirondack Experience (ADKX) turns Blue Mountain Lake into a gathering place for some of the most distinctive rustic artists and makers in the Adirondacks and beyond.

Held Saturday and Sunday, September 12–13, 2026, this annual Adirondack art and craft event fills the museum campus with handcrafted furniture, furnishings, paintings and imaginative work inspired by the natural world.

The setting could hardly be more appropriate. At ADKX, rustic design is not simply an aesthetic; it is part of the story of how generations have lived, worked and created in the Adirondack Park. The Rustic Fair, which began in 1987 with just six local makers, has grown into the museum’s longest-running and largest annual event.

Rustic art, Adirondack style.

The fair brings together 40 makers in 2026, with work ranging from rustic furniture and woodworking to sculpture, ironwork, lighting and Adirondack art.

This is craftsmanship with texture: bark, branches, antler, stone, metal, wood and other natural materials transformed into pieces that can feel equally at home in a Great Camp, a contemporary mountain house or a decidedly non-Adirondack living room.

Among the 2026 makers are artists and craftspeople from across New York, including Blue Mountain Lake-area neighbors and makers from Tupper Lake, Schroon Lake, Long Lake, Lake Luzerne and St. Regis Falls. Others travel from Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Ohio and Indiana.

Several exhibitors have additional connections to ADKX. Some are museum members, while others have work featured in the museum’s Natural Beauty: The Art of Rustic Furniture and Artists & Inspiration in the Wild exhibitions.

More than a Rustic Fair at ADKX.

A major advantage of attending the Rustic Fair is everything surrounding it.

Admission to the fair includes the opportunity to explore the Adirondack Experience campus and its exhibitions, making this an easy full-day outing in the Central Adirondacks. Visitors can also stop for lunch or a snack at the Lake View Café, where outdoor seating overlooks Blue Mountain Lake.

Those particularly interested in rustic design should explore ADKX’s All Things Rustic offerings, including Natural Beauty: The Art of Rustic Furniture, Bull Cottage and the museum’s rustic furniture collection.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Arrive early and give the fair more time than a quick shopping loop. Talk with the makers, look closely at the materials and craftsmanship, then spend part of the day exploring ADKX. September weather in Blue Mountain Lake can also change quickly, and the fair is outdoors, so layers and weather-ready footwear are smart additions to the shopping list.
