Lake George Village Oktoberfest Brings Bratwurst, Polka and Lakeside Revelry

Oktoberfest 2026

Canada Street trades its usual rhythm for polka when Lake George Village Oktoberfest returns October 9–11, 2026.

Now in its 15th year, the free-admission Bavarian-style street fair fills the block between Montcalm and Amherst streets, across from Shepard Park, with German food, live music, craft vendors and family activities. The southern Adirondacks supply the lakeside setting; the dancing chicken supplies a less dignified form of entertainment.

Food deserves an early place in the itinerary. Adirondack Pub & Brewery’s beer garden menu includes giant pretzels, schnitzel with sauerkraut and mushroom gravy, smoked turkey legs, and bratwurst, knackwurst and weisswurst.

The sausage sampler brings all three varieties together with German potato salad, sauerkraut and potato pancakes. It is a useful solution for anyone unwilling to commit to a single wurst.

Traditional Oktoberfest Schnitzel

It’s schnitzel-time in Lake George!

German food and Adirondack beer in Lake George.

Adirondack Brewery anchors the beer garden with its Oktoberfest beer, Bobcat Pilsner, Lake George’s IPA and Headwaters Hefeweizen. Cider, hard lemonade and Adirondack Winery wines broaden the choices, while the brewery’s nonalcoholic Bear Wizz Root Beer gives nondrinkers an option of their own.

Friday requires a little menu planning. The festival opens at noon, sausage service begins at 1 pm, and the full German food menu starts at 5 pm.

Polka, barrel tapping and Bavarian dancing.

Friday’s live entertainment features Fritz’s Polka Band from 6 pm – 9 pm.

Saturday brings Alpenglühen at 3 pm, a ceremonial barrel tapping at 4:30 pm, and Tony’s Polka Band from 6 pm – 9 pm.

Saturday’s stein-hoisting and keg-tossing competitions begin at 2 pm in Shepard Park. Registration is at the park’s games table from noon – 2 pm. Spectating requires considerably less upper-body strength.

Sunday pairs live music by Inseldudler with the Edelweiss Schuhplattlers of the Utica Maennerchor, both scheduled between noon and 5 pm. Their traditional shoe-slapping dance adds another Bavarian custom to the weekend’s festivities.

Family activities beside Shepard Park.

Carnival rides, crafts and vendors make this more than a beer-garden outing. Free pumpkin painting runs Friday from 5 pm – 8 pm and Saturday from noon – 5 pm, next to or beneath the beer tent.

Free park games on Friday and Saturday include cornhole, giant Connect Four, giant Jenga and giant chicken toss. Between activities, visitors can browse the street fair and enjoy the setting beside Lake George.

The event runs rain or shine, with large covered tent areas. Organizers describe it as accessible and welcome well-behaved, leashed dogs; owners should bring water and clean up after their pets.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Saturday offers a particularly useful sequence: register for competitions before 2 pm, catch the games, then move to the beer tent for afternoon music and the barrel tapping. Families can fit pumpkin painting into the same visit.

Bring cash. Adirondack Brewery’s beer garden accepts cash only, and some other vendors do, too; ATMs are available on site. Guests consuming alcohol should drink responsibly and arrange a designated driver or another sober ride home.
