Hamilton County in the Adirondacks: A birder’s paradise.

Great Blue Heron in the Adirondacks.
Hamilton County is New York State's third-largest yet least populated county, located in the center of the breathtaking Adirondack Park.
Spanning over a million acres, more than 60% of this area is designated as untouched wilderness or wild forest, making it a premier destination for boreal bird enthusiasts.
Imagine a vast landscape of lush forests, 1,500 miles of meandering rivers and streams, and over 56,000 acres of serene lakes and ponds—all of which create an unparalleled habitat for birdwatching and wildlife observation.
The symphony of nesting birds, the dance of rising trout, the soothing sound of rushing water, vibrant wildflowers, and the joyous appearance of numerous newborn species all contribute to the allure of Hamilton County’s natural environment.
While every season has its charm, springtime in the Adirondacks pulses with excitement and discovery. By June, the region comes alive as migratory birds settle in, marking the beginning of the breeding season. Whether you're a seasoned birdwatcher or just looking to soak in the beauty of nature, Hamilton County promises an unforgettable exploration of its stunning wilderness.
Bringing together birders from all over the United States.
Since 2005, the Hamilton County Birding Festival has drawn birders from across the United States to explore and discover the Adirondacks' incredible bird species.
Remember, this is the Adirondacks, so be prepared for a variety of weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, cold, and even snow. While June usually features warm days and cool evenings, staying flexible is important, as you can never be certain about the weather you might encounter.
