From West Side Story to Candide in downtown Glens Falls.

The music of one of America's great composers comes to downtown Glens Falls when Seagle Festival presents Life is Happiness Indeed: The Music of Leonard Bernstein at the Charles R. Wood Theater on Friday, September 18 at 7:30 pm.

Seagle Festival's Fall Artists will perform selections from West Side Story, Candide, Trouble in Tahiti, On the Town, and more, showcasing the remarkable breadth of Bernstein's musical career.

For audiences who know Bernstein primarily through West Side Story, the concert offers a chance to explore his repertoire more deeply. His music can be romantic, mischievous, urbane and emotionally powerful—sometimes within the same piece.

On the Town, music by Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, based on Jerome Robbins' 1944 ballet Fancy Free.

Seagle Festival comes south to Glens Falls.

The concert brings one of the Adirondacks' oldest performing arts organizations from its Schroon Lake home to the region's southern gateway.

It's also a natural fit for Glens Falls, where the Wood Theater sits amid a walkable downtown dining and arts district. For visitors staying around Lake George, Queensbury, Glens Falls, or the southern Adirondacks, the performance makes an easy centerpiece for a September night out.

ADK Taste pick.

Listen for the contrasts. Moving from the restless urban energy of On the Town to the wit of Candide and the emotional intensity of West Side Story is part of what makes a Bernstein retrospective more interesting than a conventional Broadway revue.

ADK Taste recommendation.

Take advantage of the downtown location and book dinner before the 7:30 pm curtain. It's an especially convenient option for Lake George visitors looking to venture beyond the village for an evening of live performance.

Event details: Friday, September 18 at 7:30 pm at the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls, NY. Check the Wood Theater website for tickets and the latest event information.
